Redshirts

  Return

July and August 2008

President, Frank Muller

First, I want to thank all the members who feel that I will be able to
continue to advance the mission of the Red Shirts, which simply put, is to
support our troops in harm's way. I will work hard for our organization by
trying to help raise awareness of our mission, and also to help obtain more
funding through various corporations and individuals who share our
feelings and objectives.

By electing me as President, I will no longer have to deal with the concerns
of the Treasurer, which are many and are of the utmost importance. I will
be able to help direct my successor, Dave Hitzman in the proper ways to
conduct this office in the highest possible degree of efficiency so that all
of our tax reports and Department of Justice reports and State of Oregon
reports meet every expectation and are exemplary of our dedication not only
to our troops but also to our government. In addition, we will maintain our
credo of spending every dollar donated to support our troops to exactly
that--supporting our troops.

I hope to bring a positive feeling and a lot of energy and fun and
excitement to the Brookings-Harbor Red Shirts in the coming year. This
year we are completing a raffle that hopefully will be able to pay for our
shipping expenses for this year. I intend to remain pro-active in conducting
events such as our annual raffle and auction held at the Voodoo Lounge
each October, and I really hope to encourage as many members as I can
to participate in all of our activities that help raise funds to support our
mission of supporting our troops.

In closing, I would like to thank our past President, Bob Kampf, for his
leadership, his dedication and his ability to lead us through our first two
years as a non-profit, troop supporting organization. It wasn't easy,
because we had to shoot from the hip. But Bob with his easy demeanor, and
vibrant personality helped encourage us to do more and to do better that the
week before. We all owe him a debt of gratitude. I would be remiss if I
didn't mention all the HARD work that was accomplished behind the scenes by
his lovely, energetic wife Marilyn. She got Lucy 7 Casino behind us and
made badges in her spare time, advocated for the Red Shirts in getting
grants and gifts from Lucky 7 Casino and was a ball of energy throughout
Bob's tenure as President. I know they will both continue to be as
effective in the coming year as they have been in the past because it's
always been about THE TROOPS!

There are so many members to thank for all their hard work through the past
two years, so please consider this letter a KUDOS to each and every one of
you who came to a meeting, or sat at our booth or participated in our annual
Auction and Raffle or even sold a raffle ticket this year. YOU are what the
Red shirts are all about. I would feel devastated to lose the support of even
one our members. YOU ARE the RED SHIRTS! Together, WE as a unit, will
support our troops and try to make their lives a little more comfortable while
they defend our freedom and we enjoy the fruits of their sacrifices.
God Bless each and every one of you, and especially our Troops.

Treasurer, Dave Hitzman

Here is a quick note from me:
Now that we are in the final stages of our Alaska cruise campaign it is time
to start thinking about our next money making adventure. Does anyone out
there have any connections to the corporate world where we might find a
sponsor? How about a email campaign addressed to all the products
manufactories that we send to our troops. Lets not lay this in the laps of
just a few of our group. Don't be shy with your ideas, yours could be the
one that makes the difference.

We have only three more weeks to sell one thousand tickets, have you really
asked everyone you know? What about Aunt Matilida or uncle Fred and cousin
Judy or the neighbor you have been meaning to talk to, that old friend from
high school who if they win will have to come up here to claim there prize
and have a visit with you. Did I forget someone let me know.

Secretary, Judy Fullerton

I don't really know what to say............

Although, I didn't think I would be secretary again, I am happy to be a part of the
Red Shirts and am looking forward to helping support our troops. I feel this will
be the best year yet and I love our friendly, fun members.

New Red Shirt Officers Voice their Optimism

Vice President, Jerry Wiltse

First, I’d like to thank both Ron and Bob for all the work they’ve done the past two years. You’ve set the volunteer bar rather high, but it is my desire to carry on where you have left off. I look forward to working with both of you this year.

Second, thank you to the members for voting me as a board member. Please let me know what we are doing wrong (or right) or what we can do to improve our mission.

To all the members that work behind the scenes (shopping, packing, sending, and all the other tasks that makes us such a great organization and one that I am very proud to be a part of -- “Thank You”.

I look forward to working with all of you in the coming months.
